A FAST (Function Analysis Systems Technique) can be used in Step 2 of the Systematic Innovation Process (or VAVE project) to deepen the teams understanding of all the functions within the scope of study. The technique uses “How-Why” logic to help describe the project in terms that allow for more effective inventive thinking. It also helps considerably if Cost Reduction is an innovation goal. There are 3 types of FAST diagrams: Technical, Classic, and Customer.
